A mouse built for hands that are still growing
Put a two-year-old in front of a computer and the first obstacle isn’t the screen — it’s the mouse. An adult mouse is too big for a toddler’s hand, and its two buttons and scroll wheel invite accidental right-clicks and menus a young child can’t recover from.
Dr. Curtis Whitcomb, a clinical audiologist who worked with young children every day, saw that problem up close and designed a solution around it. ILG partnered with him to manufacture it and bring it to market as My Lil’ Mouse.
One button, zero confusion
Instead of separate buttons, the whole contoured front of the mouse is a single button. Its patented “Squeeze” design matches the way a child’s hand naturally grips, and it works only as a left click — so there are no accidental right-clicks and no menus to get lost in. At just three inches long, it fits hands that adult hardware ignores, and a translucent shell lights up with every click, giving kids instant feedback that they did something.

Under the shell it was a real optical mouse — plug-and-play USB, no software to install — so it worked on any family computer, school lab machine or library terminal it was plugged into.
Then came My Lil’ Keyboard

Once kids could point and click, typing was the next hurdle, so the line grew to include My Lil’ Keyboard. Its oversized keys give small fingers a bigger target, and the keys are grouped by color — letters in green, numbers in orange, punctuation in pink, command keys in blue — so a child who can’t read yet can still find their way around the board.
In stores and classrooms
ILG took the line to market through Mibru, Ergoguys and national retailers, putting My Lil’ Mouse in front of the parents, teachers and therapists buying a child’s first computer gear. Over its run, thousands of children learned to point, click and type on hardware that was actually built for them.
The tablet era ends the run
For six years the line sold steadily. Then tablets went mainstream, and the way young children first meet a computer changed almost overnight — from pointing a mouse to touching a screen. Demand for kids’ mice faded with it, and the product line was wound down.
Not every product run ends with the product being replaced by a competitor. Sometimes the whole interface moves on. My Lil’ Mouse had exactly the run its era allowed — and for the children who learned on it, it did its job.
Why it mattered
- Clinical insight, not guesswork. The design came from a clinical audiologist who understood exactly where young children struggle.
- Design by subtraction. Its best feature was what it removed: one button, one function, no way to get lost.
- A complete line. The matching oversized keyboard turned a single product into a full first setup for young kids.
- Thousands of first clicks. For six years, it was the way countless children first learned to use a computer.
